Devkund Waterfall !!! Nature’s Gift!
Devkund! As the name suggests, it is a boon for trekkers. It is also known as the source of the Kundalika River. Just last week I got the chance to go here. "Snehal", would you like to join us for Devkund? a friend called me, and without a moment's delay, I told him, Off Course!
When the rain has stopped, the way to get here becomes open. The best time to visit this place is from September to January. After the rains, the natural beauty of the place is further enhanced, so the walking journey (112-13 km back and forth) does not feel boring. The climate here becomes also cool, green, and pleasant.
If you drive from Pune, you have to go down to Tamhani Ghat to reach here. After that Bhira village, there is a dam called Bhira.
There is a road to Devkunda from the aside of the dam. The place "Devkund" is about 9 kilometers (2 - 2.30 hours) away from the Bhira dam. It takes about 5-6 hours to complete the trek and return. The place Bhira is amazing, we have "Devkund" on the right side and at the left "Andharban" forest trek. It's easy to complete both trails if we have a proper plan.
We checked in at "Shelar Mama's" hotel in Bhira village. They had excellent accommodation and food facilities. We enjoyed breakfast here and started towards Devkund.
It's mandatory to hire a guide for the Devkund jungle trail. Of course, it has many reasons and safety for the visitors. While discussing with our guide - Mr.Prakash, they shared that many youths have lost their lives in accidents as, missing the way in the forest, drowning in the river before.
Our guide - Mr.Prakash Kaka, who was very sharp and talkative. On the way, he was narrating many good and bad incidents with great sincerity. The big and unanswered question was why the educated people are not listening even though the guide says not to go beyond the rope in the pool and there is a notice board there. One thing is clear from his speech that man has nothing to do with nature.
On the way, we enjoying lemon water, kokum syrup, vada pav, Maggi in a small Tapparies, and seeing the beauty of nature.
The way to Devkund is long but scenic. By capturing the group photos & beautiful memories, we reached the last stage (last 20-25 minutes) which was a very difficult road and also there was a lot of climbing. The body was completely drenched in sweat and the ascent was suffocating but the sound of the waterfall and the roar of the people gave me a different energy. The footsteps towards Devkunda became fast and fast. But now the way was through. We have to slow our speed. Crossing the rocks and pebbles in the river, we reached Devkund"! finally.
When I look at the front, I see the waterfall of the Devkund! Wow! A pool of clear, bluish water, and the only white stream of water coming from a cliff and falling from a height into the kund.Oh! It makes us forget our existence..
My limbs were drenched with sweat, but seeing this magic of nature, my limbs have shivered without getting soaked in water. We packed our bags and took a dip in the cold, clear water (in mineral water). The water was so cold that when we came to the surface after diving, we started tingling. The specialty of this waterfall is that it has perennial water.
We were refreshed after diving in cool water for 1 hour and captured a lot of memories. It was 3 p.m. and time to start the return journey.
The forest is very dense and many wild animals roam here, so we need to return before the evening. Even if the trek starts at around 11 in the morning, you can easily come back by 4-5, so Punekar can also choose this scenic place for a 1-day picnic.
