"Leadership Lessons from the Mountains: When Safety and Teamwork Matter Most"

"As a leader, sometimes we have to face a situation where we have to make a tough decision that would impact our entire team. I recently experienced such a moment during a night trek to Kalavantin.

We noticed a lot of sweating at night due to the high temperature 🤒 which was unexpected for each one of us, just in 2 km trek.

During the trek one of our participants started feeling unwell at 3.30 am around So, so one of our team leaders and 2 more leaders were with her till she felt better.  So we decided to wait and watch the progress. We slept some time at the resting point. We lost our peak hours of trekking.

A change of plans was necessary. We chose Kalavantin, a summit with a shorter ascent but still a respectable challenge. It wasn't ideal, but it ensured our friend's safety and the well-being of the entire team.

All agreed to the decision because we were not able to leave one of our unwell friend. In the morning 5.30 after one proper nap, she started feeling better and she came to the location where we were waiting for her. As a group we cannot go ahead without anyone because we are one team..she showed courage and decided to join us further.

This trek was the best memory for me about what is teamwork and willpower

At the resting point, we all were perfect to take the next challenge. We all had breakfast around 7.30 am and then we started for the Kalavantin.

To reach the Kalavantin we needed to continue the elevation patch… we took our time and did it slowly… The climb continues big steps and to reach the top no option other than a small 🧗‍♂️ climb of 8-9 ft.

Finally, everyone did it!

1. One of the toughest summits in Maharashtra

2. All overcame fear and many overcame on height fear and this helped a lot to remove mental blocks about the height.

3. No one had a single scratch or injury while performing

4. we all came down in temperature 40degree + after lunch around 1 pm. The real challenge was to reach parking after lunch. The test of patience. The hour trek in the harsh temperature = 10 hrs walk.. but you can’t believe everyone did it.

This was all together a very unique experience for all of us to test capacity, patience, and courage.

It was not easy but not impossible because we did it !!!… All my girls fought against  the temperature and difficulty level of the trek Kalavantin (This was plan B, Plan A was Prabalgad trek)

Total trek 14km+ but the elevation is approximately 2000m.

Overall this was one of the best chapters in my life as a Leader.

So, learning is - As a leader people will support you if trust is there and most importantly is while making any decision- the decision should be collaborative.
